There is something really special about the run-up to Christmas. All those lights sparkling in the gloom, those mince pies, the carols and happy faces and, everywhere, the scent of pine. But we’re not there yet, not quite. There are still those last-minute presents to buy, wrap and send before the big day, and then we can relax. And I think we deserve a bit of a rest this year, too, because it has been a very up and down one. Every other month, there seemed to have been some kind of drama over budgets, the threat of new property taxes and the economy. House price growth has certainly slowed a little, but the market has proved far more resilient than many had predicted, and the good news is that now the budget uncertainty is over, there are real signs of an uptick in activity.
But I’m getting ahead of myself here, because next month I will be peering into my crystal ball and telling you what I’m expecting 2026 to look like for the housing market. No doubt, there will be a few more squalls to come, but let’s leave all that for now and focus all our efforts on having a great Christmas and bringing in the New Year with the customary gusto!
So, whatever your plans for Christmas, I hope you have a wonderful time with family and friends and that you see the New Year in as you mean to go on!
Merry Christmas.
