They call it the ‘Most wonderful time of the year’. And I think most of us would agree - there’s always something really special about Christmas. Whether that’s memories of times past, or making new ones with family members and friends, it always brings out the best in us.And, right about now, we are in serious need of some good cheer because 2020 will go down on record as one of the strangest and most challenging years many of us will ever have experienced. Few will regret its passing. Most will be glad to see the back of it. In the meantime, Christmas gives us the perfect opportunity to do something to lift the gloom and it’s interesting to see how many of the decorations have gone up early this year.
You won’t hear anyone from the property industry complaining too loudly, though. Thanks to the stamp duty holiday, the housing market has weathered the storm far better than many other sectors. In fact, in many areas, it has boomed. From now on, you would normally expect things to quieten down as we get ever closer to the big day.
However, with the stamp duty holiday coming to an end on March 31st, it’s going to be a busy festive period for agents (and our customers), as everyone rushes to get their sales over the line. And the start of the New Year may be even more frantic, but let’s leave that until next month.
Talking of next month, as always, January is the time of year when I will be peering into my crystal ball and letting you know how I’m expecting 2021 to play-out for the housing market. We certainly have an interesting 12 months ahead of us, so make sure you don’t miss it.
Anyway, I hope your Christmas plans have not been too disrupted and that you will be able to get together with some of your loved ones and forget about covid and lockdowns, at least for a few days.
Here’s wishing you all
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
