We are now in the height of summer and most of us are on the beach. For those left behind, it all seems strangely empty. The commute is certainly a lot quicker and, for once, you don’t need to bother booking a table at your favourite restaurant. However, if you’re planning a move, there could be more important things on your mind than holidays. And, if you have children or go to university or college, there will be a sense of urgency too, as another academic year is fast approaching.
Of course, the start of the new school year can mean much more than just the last-minute panic over ill-fitting uniforms and lost gym shorts or, indeed, finishing that summer homework project.
Survey after survey has shown that many parents would choose to move home solely to get their child into a better school, showing just how much importance we now attach to a good education.
So much so, in fact, that on average it is estimated that parents would pay up to £25,000 more to be in the catchment area of the right school. And prices do tend to be somewhat higher around the best schools. You should also be aware catchment areas are changing all the time, so it’s important you keep up to date. If you’re unsure which streets and postcodes qualify for which schools, just give us a quick call and we can talk you through where you need to look.
For anyone going to college or university, we are now moving into the time of year when we often see a last-minute dash to find a home before the new term kicks off. If that’s you, the sooner you start, the better. Again, give us a call and we can get the ball rolling.
So, enjoy the rest of your summer and I’ll be back with you again next month, when all those tans will have faded.
